About Horatio Major

Now in his fifth year as a Math Teacher for the Silver Lakes Middle
School in North Lauderdale, Florida, Horatio Major is esteemed by
co-workers and students alike not only because of his patient and
caring attitude in the classroom, but also because he motivates his
students to achieve quantifiable gains year after year. Horatio
Major began working with the school in 2007. Each year since, he has
proven his ability to help students raise their test scores, often
dramatically. He frequently works in special inclusive classrooms
facilitating the needs of students with autism, specific learning
disabilities, or serious emotional disturbance. Dedicated to doing
whatever he can to help young people learn, Horatio Major also
works as a Tutor with Champion Learning Educational Services, LLC.

Horatio Major started out on a very different career path from the
one he currently enjoys. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in
Chemistry in 1999, he began working as a Chemist for the Sentry
Supplement Company, providing quality control testing on vitamin
supplements. He later worked in a similar capacity for Elan
Transdermal Technologies, Inc., and Schering-Plough. During this
period, Horatio Major was also working with KMN Sports managing
their flag football league.

Not only committed to the education of his students, Horatio Major
is also constantly working on furthering his own training. He is
currently working on receiving his Master of Education with a focus
on Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, and he
holds certificates through the Florida Department of Education.

When Horatio Major is not in the classroom, he works with the
R.E.A.L. Team’s football clinic and bike drive. He is also the
Commissioner of the Opa-Locka Optimist Club, Inc., the Commissioner
of the South Florida Flag Football Association, and a member of the
Broward County Basketball Officials Association (BCBOA).
